Imagine a society introduced to peace through the offices of a strong yet largely benign military force. With peace comes prosperity and security and civilisation blossoms and expands. Then external influences shatter the dream, and the cloak of the army's protection is withdrawn. In the void that follows, aggressive warriors invade the country. What can the leaders of the vulnerable, peace-loving people do? Unable to withstand the onslaught of the foreigners from the island to the west, an equally warlike band of fighters are invited to Britain and employed to push back the western invaders.
